Old Fashioned Ham and Sausage Balls

This recipe was shared with me by my sister-in-law that is the Mama of my two nieces. This is a recipe that she made for a family get-together and I’ve been waiting for the right time to give them a try. This recipe made soooo many that timing turned out great for us to have some as a part of our March Madness appetizer dinner and to freeze a pan for a birthday celebration the following weekend.

Let’s Get Crafty!

Ingredients:
1 1/2 lbs ham chunks
2 pounds ground sausage (next time I’ll try it with ground pork and not ground sausage)
4 eggs
1 1/4 cups 2% milk
1 1/2 cups panko breadcrumbs

For the Sauce:
3 1/2 cups brown sugar
1 1/2 cups water
1 cup apple cider vinegar
2 teaspoons ground mustard powder

Preheat oven to 350

Use a food processor to grind up the ham chunks

Here’s the ham all ground up.

Add the ground sausage, eggs, milk and panko to the party and combine well.

Use around 1 tablespoon to make little meatballs.

While working on rolling out the meatballs, get the sauce going in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and then reduce to a simmer stirring occasionally until all the meatballs are done. This was around 5 minutes of simmering.

Pour the simmered sauce over the meatballs.

Bake at 350 for 60 minutes. Check these and use a spatula to separate some of them to help the sauce evenly distribute all around. Bakes another 20 minutes or so until nice and toasty like the picture.

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you are having a great day.
