Yay for apple picking season being here! In the spirit of “needing to pick apples,” we truly do need to finish using the apples that we have in our freezer. Using items from the our freezer that were prepped in advance fills my bucket. I love that a little effort on the front end can pay us dividends throughout the next year.
The puff pastry for this recipe has been in our fridge for a couple weeks. When I bought it, I thought to myself “I don’t know what I’m going to do with you, but it will probably be with peaches or apples.” The day has arrived!

Let’s Get Crafty!
Ingredients:
1 puff pastry (we used the generic brand and it worked great!)
3 cups of fruit or pie filling of your choice
1/4 cup brown sugar (our apples didn’t have much sugar in the filling, so I wanted to add a little more sweetness. If you’re using pie filling, you wouldn’t need this.)
1 egg
Preheat oven to 400
Roll out the puff pastry and decide how you want to proceed. There are so many options on how to make it. I’m using the mummy pizza idea that we do around Halloween and put the pie filling and brown sugar in the middle.

Then you’re going to use scissors to create little strips to crisscross over the pie filling. We had extra puff pastry on the ends so we cut those into smaller pieces to bake on the side.
Whisk the egg and brush onto the little pieces and the apple puff pastry. This egg wash will help to make everything nice and golden brown.

Bake for 12 mins and check small pieces. (Ours were perfect and we took them off.)

Continue baking the Apply Puff Pastry another 10-15 minutes. Ours was perfectly golden brown. We will it sit for just a little bit.

Happy Fall Y’all! Hope you have a great day.
